Golden Globe Awards – By The Numbers
The Globes, as per usual, threw us some curveballs this week.
Yet despite the volatility the Globes typically bring, they still provide some solid statistical links for the Oscars.
Critics’ Choice Awards – By The Numbers
The Critics’ Choice Awards nominations are announced on December 14th, and there are some solid Oscar-winning correlations to be found.
Over the past ten years, almost uniformly across all corresponding categories, if you’re not nominated for a Critics’ Choice Award, you’re not winning the Oscar.
Frontrunner Farrell?
After a handful of wins over the past few weeks, Colin Farrell might have overtaken Brendan Fraser as the Best Actor frontrunner.
He’s definitely locked for a top 3 finish, but I’m not ready to anoint Farrell (or dismiss Fraser) just yet.
My main issue is with Farrell’s performance, and its lack of traditional Oscar-friendly bells and whistles.
The king rises
Austin Butler, who plays Elvis, is astonishing. Four criteria favour Austin Butler, which will positively drive his Oscars 2023 campaign.
From the last 10 years there is a 72% (36/50) statistical correlation between an Academy Award Best Picture nomination and Best Actor nomination.
